How do I set up an Apple AirTag for the first time?

Pull the plastic tab from the battery, hold the AirTag near an unlocked iPhone or iPad, then tap Connect. Choose a name (or a custom one like your dog's name), register it to your Apple Account and tap Done. It then appears under Items in the Find My app.

How do I fit the AirTag into a Chipè holder?

Stretch the silicone opening or unscrew the case, sit the AirTag in with the white side facing outward, then close or press the edges back over the rim. Give it a gentle shake to confirm it can't slide out before attaching it to a collar, wristband or bag.

Do I need to buy the Apple AirTag separately?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every Chipè product is a holder, collar, wristband or case built to fit a genuine Apple AirTag. The tracker itself is sold separately by Apple and authorised retailers.

How do I find my pet or child's tag if it goes missing?

Accepted Answer

Open Find My, tap Items, select the tag and choose Play Sound for nearby searches, or Directions for a map location. On iPhone 11 and later, Precision Finding points you to within centimetres once you are close by.

How long does the battery last and how do I replace it?

Accepted Answer

Around 12 months. Your iPhone warns you when it runs low. Twist the stainless steel back anticlockwise, swap in a CR2032 coin battery (positive side up) and twist it closed. Use a battery without a bitterant coating, as some brands prevent the AirTag from working.

Will the holder fit my dog's existing collar?

Our collar attachments thread onto flat collars up to 25mm wide and around 3mm thick, which covers most standard dog collars. If your collar is wider, choose one of our full AirTag collars instead.

Is an AirTag safe for cats?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with a breakaway collar. Cat collars must release under pressure so your cat can't get caught. Our cat range uses lightweight holders and breakaway hardware, and we recommend a total collar-plus-tag weight under 5% of your cat's body weight.

Can my dog wear it swimming or in the rain?

Accepted Answer

Apple rates the AirTag IP67, so it handles rain, puddles and a quick dip. Our waterproof and screw-down cases add a seal against mud and knocks. Dry the holder afterwards and don't leave it submerged for long periods.

Is this a GPS tracker?

Accepted Answer

No. AirTags don't have GPS or a SIM. They report their location anonymously through the Find My network of nearby Apple devices, which works extremely well in Australian towns and suburbs but is less reliable in remote areas with few iPhones around.

Our pet holders use thick, chew-resistant silicone or a screw-together hard case, and they sit flat against the collar so they are hard to grip. No holder is indestructible, so check it during regular collar checks and replace it if it splits.

For younger children, a wristband or a pin-on holder hidden inside a jacket works best. For school-aged kids, a bag or luggage holder clipped inside the backpack is discreet and stays put all day.

They use soft, skin-friendly silicone with an adjustable strap and no loose parts. Sizing suits roughly ages 3 to 12. Supervise children under 3, as an AirTag contains a small coin battery.

Is the battery safe around children?

Accepted Answer

The AirTag battery compartment needs a press-and-twist action to open, and our children's holders fully enclose it. Coin batteries are dangerous if swallowed, so keep spares out of reach and seek medical attention immediately if one is swallowed.

Can I track my child if I don't have an iPhone?

Accepted Answer

You need an Apple device to set up and view an AirTag. In families sharing one iPhone, set the tag up on that device and use Find My there. AirTags aren't compatible with Android for tracking, though Android phones can detect an unknown tag travelling with them.

Will an AirTag on my child alert other people?

Accepted Answer

Apple's anti-stalking alerts can notify a nearby iPhone that an unknown tag is travelling with them. A tag registered to a parent's Apple Account and carried by a child in your care is a normal use, but school staff or carers may see an alert on their own phone.
